Pollution

Cosmo-Dec`s hi tech approach to it`s coating technology means we are always at the forefront when it comes to new innovative ideas for conservation & fighting air pollution.

Our coatings contain active ingredients that literally clean the air.
We do so using  Semi conductor low temperature nano absorption – SLANT.  We modify our paint to interact with pollutants in the atmosphere rendering them  as inert nitrates.(Salts)
This process is dramatic in it’s effect as can be seen from the following excerpts from scientific data.

“The results so far are astonishing: A street in the town of Segrate, near Milan, with an average traffic of 1,000 cars per hour, has been repaved with the compound. “and we have measured a reduction in nitric oxides of around 60%.” says Alberto Ghisalberti. In a test over an 8,000 square meter (or approximately 2 acres) industrial area paved with active blocks near Bergamo, the reduction was measured at 45%. “

How can we fix pollution

“In large cities such as Milan, with persistent pollution problems caused by car emissions, smoke from heating systems, and industrial activities. Both the company and outside experts estimate that covering 15% of all visible urban surfaces (painting the walls, repaving the roads) with products containing  SLANT could abate pollution by up to 50%, depending on the specific atmospheric conditions.”

“Of course, this approach isn’t meant to replace efforts to curb pollution. It can, however significantly magnify their effects. Here’s how it works: The active principle—basically a blend (SLANT)  that acts as a semi conductor—can be incorporated into cement mortar, paints, and plaster.”

Abstract; The NOX removal test was carried out with concrete blocks for pavement containing slant in 7-8mm depth from the surface. These were manufactured on a trial basis aiming at atmospheric air cleaning. As a result of continuous contact of 1ppm NO in the dry air at 1.5l/min for 24 hours, the NOX removal rate over 80% was obtained. The high removal rate was obtained up to the feeding concentration of 5% NO.

Our technology

In addition SLANT technology incorporated into our paint also removes toxic metals out of ambient air as can be seen from the following:
Researchers have found that bricks made using slant may be even safer than predicted. Instead of leaching minute amounts of mercury as some researchers had predicted, the bricks apparently do the reverse, pulling minute amounts of the toxic metal out of ambient air.

What still needs to be done

While researchers need to study the bricks further to determine how the mercury adsorption occurs and how tightly the metal is trapped, the new findings suggest the bricks will not have a negative impact on indoor air quality.

On average, air contains low amounts of mercury that can range from less than 1 nanogram per cubic meter (ng/m3) to tens of ng/m3–a small fraction of the Environmental Protection Agency limit for continuous exposure.

Inside a confined experimental chamber, the bricks did not raise the mercury levels in the surrounding air (originally more than one nanogram). Instead appeared to lower the concentration down to roughly half a nanogram.

What we know today…

SLANT technology is a fantastic way to clean facilities, houses, and living environments.  By further developing this technology, we can reduce pollution in our air and water.  We can even reduce the spread of infections and diseases such as SARS in hospitals.  This cleaner way of life is beneficial to everyone around the world.

What is SLANT technology?

The word SLANT is composed of several parts:

  1. These being Semi conductor, Low temperature, and Nano technology
  2. Slant involves the  the process where a substance participates in modifying the rate of a chemical transformation of the reactants without being altered in the end.  This substance is known as the catalyst which increases the rate of a reaction by reducing the activation energy.

Hence, SLANT is a reaction which uses light to activate a substance. In technology
Today, semiconductors are usually selected as SLANT agents. Semiconductors have a narrow gap between the valence and conduction bands.  In order for SLANT to proceed, the semiconductors need to absorb energy equal to or more than its energy gap.  This movement of electrons forms e-/h+ or negatively charged electron/positively charged hole pairs. The hole can oxidize donor molecules.

Why SLANT?

Among the possible semiconductors, SLANT, (Eg = 3.2 eV) is most extensively used because it has many advantages.  It is inert and resistant to corrosion. It requires little post-processing, making it inexpensive.  Finally, it can react under mild-operating conditions.

How Slant works as a gas scrubber:
Conservation & fighting air pollution

SLANT is inserted to all our coatings such as Aqua-Mite, Marbleine etc. for water purification, as well as our other outdoor paints for air pollution control such as Roof-Masta, Kling-On etc.
An added feature and advantage is the self cleaning properties exhibited by this amazing coating.
